The Whitacre’s celebrated their big day with views, weather, and moments that were absolutely worth the wait. These two are great friends of mine, and being invited to photograph their wedding day at Marriott Ranch in Hume, Virginia was an honor — to put it lightly. Their story is rooted within the Virginia countryside, good times in the saddle, and a shared love for the western lifestyle. So it was only fitting that their day unfolded as a true western wedding surrounded by rolling mountains, cattle, and the way of life they love most.
A Venue Made for Ranch & Western Weddings in Virginia
Marriott Ranch is one of the most breathtaking ranch wedding venues in Virginia. With panoramic mountain views, wide-open fields, and the warm autumn color, it creates a backdrop that feels straight out of a western film. Their ceremony overlooked the mountains, complete with a stunning arbor, fall florals, and the golden-hour glow this property is known for.
From the moment guests arrived, the ranch atmosphere took over—rustic barrels lining the aisle, crisp November air, and a landscape that does half the storytelling for you. If you’re dreaming of a western, ranch, or country-style wedding in Virginia, Marriott Ranch is truly unmatched!
Getting Ready in True Cowboy & Cowgirl Style
The couple’s day began inside the historic ranch house. The groom dressed in a tan suede jacket, dark denim, and his signature cowboy hat—an effortless nod to the lifestyle he and his bride share.
The bride slipped into a stunning lace gown from Amanda’s Touch Bridal, featuring delicate sleeves, an open back, and a dramatic train perfect for portraits against the black ranch fencing. The soft, warm November sun pouring through the windows created the dreamiest bridal getting-ready moments.
A Ceremony Surrounded by Mountains & Meaning
As the ceremony began, a hush fell over the valley. With friends and family gathered between the ranch hills, the Whitacre’s exchanged vows beneath a floral-covered arch designed by Moonflower Farm VA. Pampas, fall blooms, warm tones, and antlers tied everything into the western theme effortlessly. The views stretched endlessly behind them, capturing not just the beauty of their ceremony—but the entire heart of their story.
Golden Hour Portraits on the Ranch
After the ceremony, we explored the fields for newlywed portraits—mountains glowing behind them, cattle grazing in the distance, and the couple settling into the quiet, joyful moments of being husband and wife.
One of my favorite moments of the entire day was photographing them with an old truck at sunset which the groom has been working on for their special day. The rugged metal, worn paint, and cowhide seat covers made a picture-perfect setting for a western wedding and perfect touch that was unique to them.
A Warm, Rustic Reception at Marriott Ranch
Inside the reception barn, the space glowed under iron chandeliers and warm wood beams. Tables were dressed with soft neutral linens, autumn florals, and simple rustic details that tied everything together beautifully.
Their first dance was unforgettable—the groom swept his bride into the perfect dip, surrounded by cheers from everyone who loves them.
A Wedding Day Worth the Wait
Every detail of the Whitacre wedding told a piece of who they are — western at heart, deeply connected to the land they love, and surrounded by people who know them best. Photographing their western wedding at Marriott Ranch was not only an honor as their friend, but also one of my favorite weddings of the year.
