Virginia’s First & Only Western Photography Content Day: Westbound Women

Purpose Behind Westbound Women

While it is baffling it has taken this long to debrief all things Westbound Women, it was finally time. The wild idea to create and host a western photography content day in Virginia became reality last August. This event was built with women in the western and agricultural community in mind — celebrating them, highlighting their way of life. As a photographer fascinated by western-influenced art, I have felt a calling to bring this culture conveniently to other photographers who share the same passion. The goal of Westbound Women is to highlight western lifestyle through your own lens, granting the opportunity to close a gap of thousands of miles, bringing the West to your doorstep.

How it Started

Growing up on a farm with a camera in hand is what shaped me into the photographer I am today. Years down the road, I discovered western photography and have been mesmerized ever since! I will always find a way to put my own western-flare on my photography. I discovered the lack of opportunity to shoot western-influenced content like women riding through open fields on horseback or a bride and groom dressed flawlessly with some western charm. Its just not the east coast “norm”. I decided to do something about it last year after making a new year’s resolution of networking, building new friendships in the photography industry. If only then I knew the doors that would open would be far more vast than just offering a content day.

Building The Foundation of Community

I would be lying if I did not say there were times I second guessed my decision to host a content day. I had been to one content day in my life, with only planning my wedding as experience to figure out hosting an event. There were some bumps in the road, some things that now I would differently. It was a learning experience. I prepared the best way I knew how, walked into the event with optimism, and left with so much gratitude. Every challenge and the months of planning were made so worth it. Not only did I meet new photographers, I met new friends. We laughed, created, connected, and supported one another like I never knew was possible. Since that content day, those photographers still uplift one another today. I realized I provided more than an opportunity to capture unique photos, but opened the door to forge some unwavering friendships.

Westbound Women 2025

Last August, eight photographers and myself created together while photographing styled models. Models were dressed and styled by some of the best local wedding vendors in the area. It was a priority to not just use this as a chance to help other photographers build their portfolio, but support other wedding vendors with exceptional talents. We had an on-site hair stylist, Hair by Emma, and makeup artist, Madi’s Beauty Bar.

The Cowgirls

These girls brought the heat! With vintage styled workwear and ponies, these cowgirls brought the confidence and culture for a western photography content day. The creativity was flowing and our amazing models were down for all the crazy ideas!

Western Maternity

What was originally a couple styled shoot turned into a maternity photoshoot when our models found out they were pregnant with their first baby! While unexpected, it was the biggest blessing for our couple and ended up being a fun, unique twist. It really was a full circle moment as they were awaiting their baby cowboy’s arrival!

Western Bride & Groom

Was such a dream styling this adorable couple! It was an absolute blast working with Amanda’s Touch and bringing this idea to life. A custom bridal jewelry set was handcrafted by Simple Silver Company and stunning florals all curated by Railway Road Cut Flowers. That evening our model groom asked me to document their proposal the following month and they are now engaged, planning their real wedding! It was such an honor to be a part of that sweet moment for them.

A huge thank you to Bailey Wick Farm for the opportunity to host at their venue!

What is Next?

Westbound Women was such a great time, we are doing it again this year! Planning is currently in full swing but it will not be long before it is time to share all of the details! There’s been more on my heart than this year’s western content day. Be on the lookout for more community building events that are brewing! We are prioritizing a crowded table this year and there’s a place for everyone. Be sure to follow our Instagram and join the photographer group!
